A tour of abandoned Antonio Hall

Today my friend Eva & I were given a tour of Antonio Hall by one of their private security people. It's a large, abandoned property on 265 Riccarton Road, Christchurch.

The original house was constructed between 1904 and 1909 for a successful grocery merchant. Later from 1946 onwards the Roman Catholic Church used it as a seminary - a site to educate boys planning to enter the priesthood. However by the 60s becoming a priest wasn't very popular anymore so it just became a boarding house and reception venue.
It slowly fell into disrepair and the current owners who bought the land in 1993 have no intentions of renovating it.

The February 2011 earthquake significantly damaged the original building. Currently the property is primarily used for Red Cross and Civil Defence training and as a location for film and photography students.

I had a wallpaper-gasm...

Stars and eclipses ceiling paper.

Individually wallpapered dorm "rooms" more like office cubicles. They used to have curtains for privacy.

Stained glass rainbow flickering.

If you'd like to have a look inside, DON'T trespass and set off the alarms. Be respectful and get in touch with the people who look after it first via this website:
